New Delhi: The Union Cabinet on Thursday cleared the amendments to the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) and the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including the proposals to enhance the punishment in rape cases.
According to the proposals cleared by the Cabinet, a rape convict can be sentenced to life imprisonment.
Also, a convict in an acid attack case will attract 10 years prison term and a fine of Rs 10 lakh.
Besides these changes, the Union Cabinet also gave its approval to extend the prison term in cases of outraging the modesty of women to three years. Earlier, it was two years.
