Watch: Punjab and Haryana HC lawyers clash with police in Chandigarh, water cannons fired

Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana High Court lawyers clashed with police in front of the Punjab governor's house, following which the police used water cannons to disperse them. The lawyers were protesting against an FIR filed against some advocates for allegedly thrashing a policeman on February 26.

While the lawyers demanded the cancellation of the FIR against the advocates, the police maintained that the FIR will not be cancelled. The Punjab and Haryana High Court has not seen any work for the past two days as the lawyers have refused to work till the FIR is cancelled.

Speaking on the clashes, lawyer BS Makkar said, "We had started a procession in the morning, the police overpowered the lawyers. The policemen are very adamant and are not allowing us to meet the governor."

The lawyers were protesting against an FIR filed against some advocates for allegedly thrashing a policeman on February 26.

The matter became serious between the police and lawyers when a senior lawyer was allegedly slapped by a policeman.
