Patiala: In a horrifying incident near Patiala in Punjab, a minor girl has committed suicide a month after she was allegedly gangraped. The girl in her suicide note stated that she was harassed and scared.
Her family says the police did not act on their complaint against the accused men, who are also from the same village. The girl's family also alleged that the local police asked her obscene questions when she went to file a complaint.
In a bid to save face the police have now arrested the two accused men and a woman who allegedly helped them rape the girl. The state government has dismissed the SHO of the police station, who has refused to register the case.
Ironically, just days back the girl had described on camera how she was raped, and how no one was helping her.
Police sources said the girl consumed poisonous substance at her house and succumbed in a nearby hospital on Wednesday night, police sources said.
Inspector General of Police, Patiala, PS Gill said in Patiala on Thursday that the SHO not only delayed the registration of case but did not inform the senior officers about the incident.
SHO Gurcharan Singh on Thursday was dismissed from service while Assistant Sub-Inspector Nasic Singh has been suspended, the IGP said.
