Amritsar: An Assistant Sub Inspector of the Punjab Police, Ravinder Singh, was shot dead in Amritsar by molesters who were harassing his daughter. The accused are still roaming free, even as eye witnesses claim the police reached the spot late, in spite of the fact that the place was right in the middle of the city.
On Wednesday morning, Ravinder had gone to confront some youth after his teenage daughter complained to him that they regularly harassed her while she went for tuitions. The youth opened fire on Ravinder and his daughter. Ravinder died before reaching hospital. His daughter, too, was injured.
Pritpal Singh Virk, SSP rural, Amritsar, said, "We have identified the culprits but don't know their names yet. Investigations are going on."
The police have so far failed to make any arrests. Even as family members mourn the police officer's death, his own colleagues can merely claim they are still looking for the accused.
