Chandigarh: For someone who is said to be perhaps fighting his last election, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal would definitely not have expected to be fighting it against his own brothers. The three Badals are pitted against each other for the Lambi Assembly constituency in Punjab, which goes to the polls on January 30.
As Punjab gears up for polls, all eyes are on the fight for the Lambi Assembly seat. Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal is contesting against younger brother Gurdas Badal, who is fighting on a People's Party of Punjab ticket and their cousin Maheshinder Singh Badal is the Congress candidate.
"What should I say...Badal Saab (Parkash SIngh Badal) will get defeated. Corruption has vastly gone up in the state, earlier (before Badal ruled SAD) it was very little," Gurdas Badal said.
Maheshinder Badal said, "It's a close fight. In fact, it is Badal vs Badal vs Badal. People are not as happy as they should have been with Parkash Badal's leadership and work."
In the last elections, Maheshinder gave Parkash Singh Badal
tough competition. Parkash Singh won by just 9,000 votes against him. The
84-year old Chief Minister maintains he has nothing against his brothers and that they are the ones fighting against him.
"I have never stood against them, they have stood against me, they are my brothers, I still love them," Parkash Singh said.
In a state where elections are said to be fought within one big political family, it has been taken to new heights in Lambi where the three Badals are pitted against each other, one from the PPP, one from the Congress and one SAD-BJP Chief Minister. All eyes are on the crucial Assembly seat now to see who emerges the winner.
