New Delhi: Michael Husssey with 574 runs and Dwayne Bravo with his 21 wickets are the proud owners of the Orange and Purple caps, respectively, but their Chennai Super Kings' team-mate R Ashwin says that's not the focus of his in-form team-mates.
Hussey scored his fifth half-century (67) of the season and Bravo took a wicket in Chennai's 77-run win against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Wednesday. That helped Hussey reclaim the top spot on the run-scorers' list, while Bravo consolidated his position as the top wicket-taker.
The win made Chennai the first team to qualify for the play-offs with 20 points from 10 wins in 13 matches. And offspinner Ashwin attributed it to the Chennai team-mates enjoying each other's success. "Purple and Orange Caps do not mean anything to us. To take wickets or get runs, you need that opportunity.
"We do not look at the Purple Cap and Orange Cap aspect of the game. It is very pleasing to see two guys from our side having achieved it. We enjoy each other's success and company but that is not something that we focus on," Ashwin told the IPL website.
The Chennai offie was especially pleased with Raina's batting. The left-hander fell just one short of another century this season, scoring 99* off 52 balls, including 11 fours and 3 sixes.
"It was one of those days where whatever he touched turned into gold. There is not much you can do with describing a batsman's innings like that, because it happens once in every three or four games where a batsman gets away like that," Ashwin said.
