New Delhi: The water war between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka is turning uglier.
In a tit-for-tat move, cable operators in Tamil Nadu have been asked to black-out Kannada TV channels. Since Tuesday, local cable operators in Karnataka have blacked out Tamil channels.
In Delhi, former Karnataka Chief Minister and the Congress's pointsman for the state, S M Krishna has taken the matter straight to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Krishna has asked that the controversial Hogennekal Fall Water Project be put on hold till a new government takes over in the state. State elections will be held next month.
"The new government can protect Karnataka's interests better. The Prime Minister should exert his influence in Tamil Nadu. The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister's harsh language was unexpected and it has provoked Kannada activists," Krishna said.
The Karnataka Assembly elections will be held in three phases on May 10, May 16 and May 22.
He also blamed Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, M Karunanidhi for making remarks that provoked Kannada activists.
The Tamil Nadu Assembly had passed a resolution on Tuesday seeking the Centre's intervention to stop violence by what they called 'linguistic fanatics' in Karnataka. They have also announced a series of agitations in the coming days.
