Bangalore: A ban imposed on Kannada actress Nikita Thukral by the Kannada producers for being responsible for marital discord between actor Darshan and his wife was lifted. The question now being raised is why actor Darshan himself has not been banned.
The withdrawal came three days after Nikita was banned for an alleged affair with Kannada star Darshan, who is now in jail for assaulting his wife Vijayalakshmi. The producers who effectively held her responsible for marital discord in the Darshan household now concede it was unnecessary.
Kannada Producers' Association Muniratna Naidu said, "We admit now that the ban was foolish. We've wronged an actress who was good and kind hearted."
Nikita, who has been keeping a low profile till now, reacted with relief.
But questions continue to be raised on why producers have not considered a ban on Darshan himself, who was arrested last week for beating and attempting to kill his wife. One lawyer has even sought permission to sue Darshan's actor friends Vijay and Jaggesh. He said that they should be held in contempt of court for forcing Darshan's wife Vijayalakshmi to water down her police complaint.
Meanwhile, Darshan's lawyers have re-applied for bail after it was rejected by a magistrate court last week. The fate of that will be known in about two weeks. Clearly the Darshan controversy is not going to die down immediately.
