Kochi: Timely availability of land and funds and quick decision making are crucial for the success of the Kochi Metro Rail Project, said E Sreedharan, principal advisor to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). He was addressing the staff of the Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) on Wednesday. It was the first visit of the Metro man to the KMRL office here.
Sreedharan said that the DMRC and the KMRL must work together with mutual trust and respect. Speaking about the work culture he said that punctuality should be given prime importance. “It is not just about running trains on time. Every work undertaken must be completed within the stipulated time. The delay would cause a loss of lakhs of rupees each day”, he said.
Pointing at transparency and integrity, he said that as government bodies, the KMRL and the DMRC would be subject to the scrutiny of the government watchdogs like the Vigilance, the Comptroller and Auditor General and also the media. “So each step must be taken with utmost transparency and integrity. We should ensure that the money we spend gets the maximum value. The best technology should be adopted to reduce the operational and maintenance cost,” he said. Kochi Metro Rail Ltd MD Elias George, and Delhi Metro Rail Corporationproject director P Sriram were present.
