New Delhi: The Supreme Court stay on 27 per cent quota for Other Backward Classes (OBC) in Central institutes for higher education will figure prominently at the three-day CPI-M Politburo and Central Committee meetings beginning in Delhi on Saturday.
The Nandigram issue and its adverse impact on the party's image will also be debated at the meeting.
The Politburo is meeting for the first time after the police firing in Nandigram. It will take stock of the situation in West Bengal and will hear the state leadership's take on the issue.
Senior party leaders have already admitted that its supporters in Nandigram have drifted away from the party.
The Commerce Ministry's recent decision to change certain rules in the SEZ Act will also come up for discussion.
In what could be big a blow to the Government's pro-reservation stance, the SC on Thursday stayed the 27 per cent reservation for OBCs in elite educational institutions like IIMs and IITs.
The Court ruled that the 1931 census could not be a determinative factor for identifying the OBCs for the purpose of providing reservation.
