Mumbai: Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma is very serious about his new film Phoonk.

Varma claims that it is the scariest film he has ever made and to prove that he has also challenged anyone who is willing to watch the film alone in a theatre and the winner would be rewarded with a cash prize of 5 lakh.

When asked whether the challenge was a promotional gimmick for the film, Varma said, “I remember when I saw Exorcist, people said that there was an ambulance kept outside should anyone get a heart attack but it was not true. However, the incident drew my attention to the nature and intent of the film."

"So I went to watch the film being a little scared. Where as my friend who accompanied me was saying 'dekhta hoon kaisa daryaega' (lets see how it scares me). Different people have different degrees of what can scare them but yes the intent is to scare them," he added.

However, the challenge is not for everyone. One has to sms "PHOONK" to 57333 and five lucky people will be chosen to watch the film all alone in the theatre.

What is so scary about the film?

“If you ask me honestly the nimbu (lemon) is the scariest part. It is because we don’t expect a nimbu to scare you. You take it so much for granted everyday at home. It's there all over. What is there to be afraid of a nimbu? But there may be something in it which can be captured in a certain dramatic effect which could scare you,” expressed Varma.

All of this can be found out when the film releases on 22 August.
