Rabri advises Lalu to quit politics

Patna: Union Railway Minister Lalu Prasad called this bit of advice from his wife Rabri Devi — 'quit politics' — the best ever he has received in his three decades of political career.
"I am constantly advised by my wife to quit politics because it is a thankless job and gives us more tension," Lalu Prasad said on Saturday at a public meeting in Bihar's Raghopur, the Assembly constituency of his wife, a former chief minister.
"Rabri Devi wants me to say goodbye to politics and take to social service," said the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief, who enjoys a mass support base in rural Bihar.
Although Lalu Prasad did not reveal if he would accept his wife's advice, he suggested that people practice 'gandhigiri' instead of taking to politics to serve the society.
"Take to 'gandhigiri' to protest injustice and non-development," said the minister. Lalu Prasad, considered India's most colourful politician, did not hide his pain at being ousted from power in the state in the 2005 assembly elections.
"In politics, I served the poorest of the poor, empowered them socially and politically. I gave them voice and honour during RJD's 15 years rule. But we have to sit in opposition now," he said.
