Hyderabad: 26-year-old, Shravan Kumar, who was battling for life after a brutal racial attack in May 2009 in Australia, has finally returned to his home.

Almost a year later, his family are anxious to finally catch a glimpse of him. It's an emotional mix of tears, hugs and wide smiles.

"I feel very happy to be see my family. It's almost as a miracle as doctors had said the chances are not positive," says Shravan.

Meanwhile, the racial attack has left Shravan with only 20 to 25 per cent of his vision. He also had to drop out of his automobile engineering course but he says he will go back to Australia to complete his studies.

"There is no sense of insecurity else I would have come back that day itself not after a year. I still plan to go back to Australia in a few months. I don't remember much of it after that incident, " added Shravan.

Shravan's uncle, who had rushed to Australia after the CNN-IBN helped him acquire an urgent visa, can not help but relive those early days of recovery.

"He couldn't even recognise me for 10 days. His condition was such that in the morning he would remember me and by evening he used to forget," said Shravan's Uncle Dr Srinivas.

Moreover, the accused in the case has been sentenced to seven years of imprisonment. Shravan also has been granted a permanent residency in Australia.

However, Shravan still dreams of making it big as an automobile engineer. His family meanwhile is celebrating every moment of his presence here. In their words, Shravan's homecoming marks the triumph of their efforts and his own will to come back from the clutches of death.
