New Delhi: If you own a Nokia N-series and have a Hutch connection, get ready to be entertained by Radio Mirchi.
Visual Radio is a service which offers interactive content and services related to the song being aired.
For instance, if you are listening to a song featuring King Khan, you could access trivia on the star, the singer and the film on your handset while the song is on.
Apart from building listener loyalty, Radio Mirchi hopes it will help it generate advertisement revenues too.
"Brand owners and the advertising fraternity can exploit this medium by coming up with innovative ideas,” said managing director and chief executive officer of Entertainment Network (India) Limited, A P Parigi.
This technology will provide a platform to listeners to participate in radio station promotions, contests, and even interact with the radio jockeys.
Listeners will be charged Rs 3-4 an hour to view the data and content on their mobile screens.
Other major players like Airtel are also likely to follow.
Though for now visual radio will be made available only to the people of Delhi, the service is set to launch in Mumbai in a couple of weeks and will be followed by other metros.
