Jammu: With the state on the edge of violence, its now radio which is trying to reach out to the people with an "on air marathon" for peace. With the continuing violence forcing people to stay in for weeks now, messages on radio have become very popular, specially with the young who air their concern about the situation. "Its so unusual, lag hi nahi raha apna Jammu (it is not looking like our Jammu) and we want peace back in the state" says a listener.
The effort seems to be reflecting from all the corners, 106 hours on air and still going strong, Radio Jockey Rahul Makhin is literally eating and sleeping on air so that the message of peace and communal harmony stays afloat on the airwaves in Jammu and Kashmir.
With SMS services shut down by the state administration the radio has also replaced mobiles for communication. Listeners and organizers feel this could be an small attempt to at least bridge the divides.
Amidst the turmoil and frenzy, these young voices are trying to find a space, therefore hoping to make a small difference.
