It came as a surprise when SJ Suryah announced that he would compose music for his next film, 'Isai'. The director-turned-actor has completed composing all nine tracks for the movie and says Oscar-winner AR Rahman gave him the confidence to try his hand at music.

"While composing for my Telugu film 'Puli', Rahman sir said, 'You should compose music yourself'. I asked him if he was joking and he replied, 'I don't say it unless I mean it.' It all started there," says SJ Suryah.

The 'Kushi' director says he spent five months learning to work the guitar and piano with the help of five musicians who work for Ilaiyaraja, Rahman and Harris Jayaraj. "I took guitar class for five hours followed by piano lessons of the same duration."

It came as a surprise when SJ Suryah announced that he would compose music for his next film, \'Isai\'.

Speaking about the movie, Suryah says, "It's a musical thriller. When a music director is reigning supreme in the film industry, a young talent enters and takes his place. Obviously, the senior is not happy and troubles the junior in every conceivable way.”

Prakashraj and Suryah will play the two musicians while Odisha beauty Sulagna will play the lead girl.

Shooting for the film will go on floors from the second half of the June. The movie will be canned using a Red Epic camera by Soundarrajan, the cinematographer of Suriya-starrer 'Maatraan'. "I have planned to release the audio for Diwali and the movie in December," says SJ Suryah.

ASK Multimedia is producing the film.
