Rahman to make reality show on Asian bands

New Delhi: Independent bands across Asia could not have asked for a better platform. Music Composer A R Rahman has teamed up with music label Phat Phish Records to do a reality series where they will give a variety of bands a chance to get their music released as well as perform world wide.

Rahman was in Delhi to promote the show.

Having A R Rahman a few feet away listening and even shaking his head to your music is an experience that would overwhelm any musician.

So one can only imagine the plight of the young and upcoming bands as they get a chance to give Rahman a teaser of the sound they've been nurturing for years!

Rahman's tie up with Phat Phish Records aims to find not one but a few bands from across the subcontinent that thrive on originality and give them a mainstream release.

Rahman says, "We are really excited to expose the hidden talent in these places, especially India."

Bands from across genres can send in their entries to Phat Phish Records over the next month and will be judged in three categories. Namely, their remake of a popular folk or mainstream tune, their rendition of a tune composed by Rahman for the series and one of their original tracks.

The series will air as a travelogue through the eyes of Rahman on Doordarshan. Big as it may seem, what lies in it for bands other than the record deal shows?

Rahman says, "We are planning to give the selected bands opportunities like never before."

The time could not be better for all the rockers to nurture their rock and roll dreams.

The entries are open to all age group and genres.

You can log on to www.phatphishrecords.com to register for the show and who knows you just might hit the right note.
