Rahman's nephew strikes the right notes in Tamil films

Chennai: It sure looks like music runs in the Rahman family, with a sister who is already into playback singing now comes the music maestro's nephew, GV Prakash, who is topping the charts in Tamil Nadu.

“First time when I did Veyil people said the music is not up to expectations and it's got a Rahman stamp on it. It was pretty shocking,” remembers Prakash.

With AR Rahman for an uncle, the comparisons are inevitable. But this Tamil music director has managed to make an identity for himself in the industry with hits like Veyil, which won him critical acclaim at Cannes.

And now the soundtrack of the new release Kireedom starring Ajith has brought the young musician back in the news.

Prakash dabbled in Bollywood music with Anu Malik in Jaanemann and with Rahman in Mangal Pandey and Rang De Basanti.

“I listened to only one soundtrack of his – the first one. I think he's very promising, he's gifted and hope he goes on the right path and he sets an example,” Rahman said.

With some big Tamil projects already in his kitty, Prakash has struck the right chords in the industry.

“I'm doing Kalai, Vellithirai and Polladhavan with Dhanush,” Prakash said.

For someone who's been in the industry for hardly a year, this young soundsmith's career graph already sounds like music to our ears.
