Chennai: Music composer A R Rahman turned 43 on Tuesday but his birthday celebrations were relatively low profile.
"My birthday this time is very low profile because it's Muharram-so for us it's 10 days of mourning-so it's vegetarian and very low profile," says Rahman.
But his professional life is all full of celebrations. Rahman's Gloden Globe nominated soundtrack of Slumdog Millionaire was released in Mumbai on Tuesday evening but its plagiarised versions were available on the internet much before that.
“I can't talk about piracy and I don't want to. It's a moral thing within you, I can't teach morals to you, it's a conscience thing-if you want to support a musician then get the music from shops,” says Rahman.
Rahman said this at the release of his new album Connections in Chennai on Tuesday and what makes this album special is the fact that it is available on cellphones only.
“Mobile phone is a very convenient device to listen to music, you can just carry that alone. You don't have to be cluttered with other devices - it's convenient to listen to whenever you want to - so I thought it was a good idea to create content for this,” adds Rahman.
“The first track I did was probably a drum groove for Jiya-sa-jiya then Blaaze had this idea of the Kural thing. Then there's one based on Rajasthani folk music-it's called a mosquito. There's another track called Mylapore blues - what if you play jazz in Mylapore - how will it sound - we just enjoyed doing this album,” Rahman explains talking about his new album.
