Mumbai: Controversy continues to surround the shooting of Patna boy Rahul Raj in Mumbai. Initial forensic reports suggested he was shot at close range but the JJ Hospital later denied the report.
It is a double twist in the tragic tale first the autopsy report on Rahul Raj compiled by Mumbai's JJ hospital suggested that one of the bullets was fired at him from very close range throwing a huge question mark over the police version of the incident.
Rahul Raj from Bihar was killed in an encounter with Mumbai police in Kurla, Rahul was armed and was shot dead by police after he had taken hostages in a BEST bus.
“There are burn marks of gun powder at a spot from where one of the bullets entered his body," says Dr BG Chikalkar.
Then the government controlled hospital quickly denied having said anything like that, the hospital said it was too early to draw any conclusions from the report.
The autopsy report accessed by CNN IBN says, there were 5 bullet entry wounds in Rahul's chest and head regions of the 5 bullets fired; one was recovered from the body. The dark mark around the bullet hole in the face suggests he was shot at from as near as 2 feet.
Ballistics experts tell CNN IBN that a bullet fired from within a 10-feet-range could leave burn marks of gun powder on the victim. These details have emerged even as the high level enquiry headed by the Mahrashtra Chief Secretary, Johnny Josef is yet to submit a report.
The police are now on the defensive, "It's easy for you sitting here to ask why we killed him, but it is very difficult to ask the same question when you are facing a gunman who is shooting at you,” says Ad. CP, Mumbai Police Sadanand Date.
And the autopsy report has prompted Rahul Raj's family to demand the suspension of the police officials involved in the shootout.
What's strange is the fact that the Mumbai Police has still not submitted Rahul Raj's autopsy report to Maharashtra government and the latest forensic report only creates more uneasy questions for the police to answer.
