Gunupur: Rahul Gandhi is hoping that the Gandhi name will translate into votes for the youngest member of India's most famous political dynasty and the Congress party.

Revoking the memory of his father and former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi seemed to have been his one-step strategy in Orissa, where he is on a four-day Discover India tour.

The Congress General Secretary is trying his luck with the voters using his famous surname, which is a bit like Bollywood starsons.

His Discover India tour in Orissa is pitched high on the magic word Gandhi and the youth icon image of his father Rajiv Gandhi.

"Main yahan aayan hoon. Mere parivar ka aapse khas rishta hai. Mere pita Rajiv Gandhi bhi yahan aaye the. Woh youth icon the I have come to you as my family has special relation with you. My father Rajiv Gdanhi had also come here. He was an youth icon)," Rahul Gandhi said while addressing a rally on the second day of his Orissa tour.

But lineage is not guarantee for success.

Bollywood has seen more famous failures in Kumar Gaurav, Karan Kapoor and Puru Rajkumar and for Rahul politics has similar examples. Jagat Singh, Meira Kumar and Ajit Singh though coming from famous political families have failed to live up to the expectations.

While Jagat is the son of former Congress leader Natwar Singh, Meira is the daughter of Babu Jagjivan Ram while Ajit Singh's father was Charan Singh.

Being a starson does give a person a head start but will it really work? The voter has got smarter and wants the leader to do something of note to get the votes.

For that Rahul is taking the youth route.

"Change can come through politics and the youth. Unfortunately even in the Congress party, the youth is not being given a chance," he said at the rally trying to connect with the youngsters.

The youth policy failed in Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat for Rahul and his real hope remains his lineage, which he is trying to encash as successor of the dynasty.
