New Delhi: The Patiala House Court on Tuesday framed charges under Prevention of Corruption Act and criminal conspiracy against former Railway Board member Mahesh Kumar and the nephew of former Railway minister Pawan Kumar Bansal, Vijay Singla, in connection with the cash-for-job scam in the Railway Board.
According to the CBI Mahesh Kumar through his various links had given Rs 10 crore to Vijay Singla for his promotion in the Railway Board. The court has fixed August 25 as the date for start of the trial.
Eight others have also been charged in the case. According to sources, Pawan Bansal will be summoned as a witness later.
However, Bansal has so far maintained that he had lost touch with his nephew Vijay Singla.
Bansal had earlier told the CBI that he had not been in touch with his nephew for some time and was not aware if he had carried out any deals in his name.
He had also rebutted claims taking money or any gratification for any posting or appointment. He said that postings were done after proper verification and vigilance clearance.
The former railway minister also denied knowing whether accused Sandeep Goyal sought Rs 10 crore from suspended Railway Board member Mahesh Kumar for posting.
