Mumbai: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday arrested Ajay Garg, one of the key accused in the Railway Board bribery case. Garg was the aide of Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal's nephew Vijay Singla. A Delhi court remanded him in CBI custody till May 9.
Garg had earlier surrendered at the court in connection with the cash-for-jobs scam.
The CBI also uncovered more details on Garg. CBI sources said that Garg was coordinating the sourcing of money and bribe payments. The sources said that he was reportedly in touch with all the accused and was aware and part of the bribery conspiracy.
Meanwhile, the CBI also carried out raids in Mumbai at Mahesh Kumar's residence and found huge amount of cash, jewellery and property documents.
According to sources, the recovered property deeds were benami and meant for many Railway officials. An FIR has been lodged against a Railway Protection Force (RPF) officer for destruction of evidence.
