Rains hit Bihar

New Delhi: Monsoon has arrived in Bihar, though 13 days late. The rains have brought some relief to the farmers in Bihar, the state was staring at a possible drought situation and a worried Chief Minister had announced a subsidy of Rs 10 per litre of diesel for farmers.

However, now the farmers can start the process of paddy cultivation. Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, back from his trip from London sought to dispel any fears of drought due to the delayed monsoon.

"A delay of seven to 10 days is not that significant. We also have adequate stocks in the country," said Pawar.

Good news also for many other parts of the country. The weather man has forecast rain and thundershowers in many parts of Northwest India including parts of Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.

The MET Department officials said conditions are favourable for the further advance of southwest monsoon over some more parts of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Orissa, Bihar, Jharkhand and East Uttar Pradesh. West Bengal and

Sikkim can also expect monsoon showers in the next 2-3 days

However, time is running out for many others. Farmers in Jallandhar are now seeking divine help as the last resort. And the Tehri plant - one of the biggest hydro power dams in the country - is now operating at just one fourth of last years capacity.

It is not yet time to rejoice but the southwest monsoon has advance to more parts of the country on Sunday, washing away the fear of drought in at least some of the areas.
