Rains, time for an Ayurvedic massage

Kerala: As the monsoon hits the shores of Kerala, there is one thing that is on every one’s mind apart from the rains - getting a good oil massage. This is just something which no-one in God's own country will say no to.

This is the only place in the world where oil mixes with water.

Kerala is awash with the first flush of the monsoon and for everyone in God’s own country who deals with Ayurveda, it’s raining pennies from Heaven.

German tourist, Diana says, “I came here because I heard that the rains is good for Ayurveda treatment. I love the rains. It’s so relaxing to be here at this time."

Relaxing is the key brought on by the gentle goodness of an oil massage, scented by mountain herbs to the sound of the cleansing rain.

So what is this marriage between Ayurveda and monsoon? Traditional texts say that Ayurveda therapies work the best during the rains and all body types react the best to Auyrveda rejuvenation at that time of the year.

Head doctor of Manaltheeram Ayurvedic Beach, Dr Hareendran Nair, says, “This is the time of the year when the temperature is not very hot or cold. It’s optimum temperature for any type of Ayurvedic treatment.”

The re-discovery of the healing powers of Ayurveda means that tourism in Kerala now has business virtually around the year. Earlier, tourists used to dry up when the rains began. Now the monsoons mean packed hotels and resorts.

God is certainly smiling down on God’s own country even if it’s through the monsoon clouds.
