Kunda, Pratapgarh (Uttar Pradesh): He may be a notorious history sheeter but Raghuraj Pratap Singh or Raja Bhaiya as he is better known has been voted as MLA of Kunda with increasing margins everytime.
This time around though, the man who has hardly ever been challenged, is finally up against a defiant Apna Dal candidate.
Prakash Singh is Raja Bhaiya's former cronie and the man who has never lost an election in Kunda since 1993 is now slightly worried.
Says Prakash Singh, "Initially no one used to come out and stand with me. Now you can see for yourself people are stepping out. Things are changing here.''
However, Raja Bhaiya says people like Prakash Singh are no threat to him. He is confident that the people of Kunda are behind him. But ask him if it's fear that makes them vote for him, and he doesn't give a straight answer.
"This is a question you should ask the people. They will give you the right answer,'' says he.
And Prakash Singh is only the beginning of Raja Bhaiya's troubles. He also has to watch out for Mayawati who is personally managing the BSP's campaign in Kunda and has threatened to wipe out criminals from Pratapgarh.
It was under Mayawati's regime that Raja Bhaiya was charged under POTA and the Gangster and Goonda Act and he ended up spending 21 months in jail.
The Raja of Kunda has reigned supreme in Pratapgarh. He has been elected MLA from Kunda three times consecutively. However this time with the EC cracking down it may be a tough fight even for him.
