Mumbai: Two years and nine months, that is how long debutant director Pryas Gupta had to wait to see his film Siddharth -The Prisoner finally get a release. And for this architect turned graphic designer turned filmmaker it was his undying passion for films that drove him to Bollywood.
“It started with me quitting my advertising job. It was not that it didn’t pay me well or there wasn’t good working atmosphere but I was so determined to make a film that i thought of nothing else,” says filmmaker, Pryas Gupta.
And for the lead actor Rajat Kapur who is passionate about independent cinema himself, it was Pryas' conviction that attracted him.
“He was very resolute, and that is always an important criteria for me,” says actor Rajat Kapur.
Apart from winning accolades at film festivals Siddharth -The Prisoner also bagged the Grand Jury Award at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards beating 34 other contenders and is a personal favourite with Rajat himself.
“I love the film, it might not do well at the box office but it definitely a different way of story telling,” adds Rajat.
At a time when biggies are biting the dust at the box-office as long as there's a good film to watch no one's really complaining.
