Jaipur: Vasundhara Raje lost the Rajasthan Chief Minister's chair and since then, Raje is fighting party colleagues like Bhairon Singh Shekhawat who publicly pointed out corruption charges against her.
Acting on a Jaipur court's orders the police have registered a case against her in the controversial Deen Dayal Upadhayay Land Allotment case. Raje and 8 others have been charged with forgery and criminal conspiracy.
The Gehlot government began probing the 22,000 crore rupee scam after former vice president Bhairon Singh Shekhawat wrote about it in his letter to Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.
"It is a mistake, and where yoo have made a mistake, every mistake demands an explanation," Rajasthan Chief Minister, Ashok Gehlot.
The CID will now investigate the allegations of the case which is about 7000 sq ft of prime land in Jaipur being illegally allotted to the Deen Dayal Upadhyay trust of which Raje herself was the chairperson.
Two years ago, much to the embarrassment after the court's intervention, former Chief Minister Raje had to get the land allotment to the trust cancelled. But despite the court's orders the police failed to register a case against Raje and others involved in the case.
Many in the BJP believe that the Gehlot government is playing vendetta politics; Raje says she's ready to face the probe.
Sources say the Deen Dayal Upadhayay Trust case is just the tip of the iceberg as far as the corruption charges against the Raje government are concerned. Among other people matter's concerning Raje's confidante Lalit Modi could be the next to come under the scanner.
