Jaipur Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje has walked her way into a new controversy once again – Raje walked down the ramp at a fashion show in Bangalore, which has got the Congress up in arms.
“I'm not fashion conscious as such. But I believe that it is going to give people that opportunity and therefore fashion for development is to be cheered,” Raje said.
Raje might have had her reasons to sashay down the ramp at an event showcasing men's fashion in Bangalore but she had no idea what a storm she was going to kick up back home.
An ambassador of Rajasthan at the hip do, Raje said she was there to encourage her weavers.
"I'm here to project my weavers because I believe that this is a bridge between poverty and opportunity. We are here to bridge that gap. Today, when you look at my weavers and you see the smile on their faces you know the change that it has made for them," Raje said.
But Raje's ramp act has galvanised the Congress in the state. The party held protests at Jaipur's Statue Circle and enacted Raje's Bangalore ramp walk as well.
The state Congress leaders said the Chief Minister has been elected to address the concerns of the state and not walk the ramps.
"She's walking down the ramp like a model! Rajasthan's farmers have come down to the roads demanding water, there's severe shortage of electricity, seasonal diseases have gripped the state and she's not even worried," Spokesperson, Pradesh Congress Committee, Raghu Sharma said.
Raje has been in news in the last two months for ordering expensive cars and adding a chopper to her already elaborate fleet. Now, her walk on the ramp has added more fuel to the fire.
