It all started when superstar Rajinikanth requested Chief Minister M Karunanidhi to solve the issue amicably, talking it out at a higher level.
"This issue has been blown out of proportion. In Tamil Nadu people don't understand the seriousness of the issue. But in some states especially in the north, it's being flared up. As far as we're concerned, we just want our work done. So I request the Chief Minister, a senior politician who's in touch with almost all big politicians in the country, to talk it out at a higher level and get the issue resolved,” said Rajinikanth.
But Karunanidhi's response was categorical.
"Rajinikanth has the luxury and opportunity to travel to the North more often than me. He even goes up to the Himalayas and meet the saints there. So next time you meet them please tell them that Karunanidhi may be an atheist but he doesn't hate Ram,” said Karunanidhi.
The superstar has been known for his spiritualism and Karunanidhi, for his staunch atheism.
Despite the fact that the Chief Minister's remarks on Ram had sparked controversy just a few days back, the DMK Chief remains defiant.
"Some people especially up north think that TN will progress far ahead that their states in not just in the economic stream but in all other spheres. They want to obstruct this project. So they've raked up the issue of Ram. We're not against Ram, we don't have anything personally against Ram, we don't hate Ram. Be it any avtaar whoever has done some good to the society, we only appreciate it. We wouldn't dump the project just because it has Ram's name attached to it. Would we say we don't want the Krishna project because of the name?" said Karunanidhi.
The fact remains however that the more Karunanidhi speaks about Ram, the more he embarrasses his allies, the Congress.
