Chennai: There's good news for all Rajinikanth fans. The 'boss', as he is fondly referred to by his fans, will get more real on the silver screen. His 2007 hit 'Sivaji' will now be released in 3D, tentatively this September.
It just cannot get bigger than this - the stylish coin-flipping, the familiar punch dialogues, his signature dance moves - and all this in 3D. Rajinikanth's 2007 blockbuster Sivaji, directed by Shankar, had sent fans into frenzy. Now, five years alter, it will be the first Rajinikanth film to be released in 3D. Here's how it all came about.
"It was sometime last June when I met up with Sai and he said that he had the technology to convert existing 2D films into 3D and he showed me some Hollywood films that they'd done work for and it was very impressive and he said why don't we try doing Sivaji because it's got that grandeur and it's an apt movie for this technology", producer MS Guhan said.
The original film shot in 2D is now being converted frame-by frame at the Prasad EFX studio in Chennai. The process that started last year in June will be tentatively finished by September.
"The challenge was to retain the original quality, the original detailing. It took us a whole year with almost 400 people working on the project. We spared no efforts, didn't compromise anywhere, and we hope the end product will speak for itself," director A Sai Prasad of the Prasad group of Companies, said.
But what does the superstar himself think about his his 3D avatar? "He's seen a small portion of it and he was very excited and he said it's come out really well," he said.
So after Shah Rukh Khan in RA.One, the superstar of Tamil cinema too goes the 3D way. While the wait for the superstar's next, Kochaidaiyaan, continues, the star's fans are in for a treat with Rajinikanth in a 3D avatar.
