Fearing attacks and destruction of property by the MNS cadres, the Mumbai police have arrested 100-150 party workers as a preventive measure on Wednesday.
They will be produced in the magistrate's court on Thursday.
Meanwhile several shops in Mumbai have changed their signboards after Raj Thackeray's notice.
However some other retail traders have been resistant and have decided to approach the High Court on Thursday to sort out the matter.
Raj Thackeray earlier on Wednesday had warned shop owners that if they do not comply with the diktat of putting up Marathi boards on shops by Thursday, they must get ready to face the wrath of his men.
Meanwhile, the state’s chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh has issued orders that any vandalizing acts by miscreants should be dealt with firmly.
He has directed police officials to take stern action against anyone using force or violence to get Marathi signboards put up on shops.
