CHENNAI: The All India Jaymal Jain Shravak Sangh on Friday conducted a rally aimed at preventing violence and safeguarding the environment.
The rally, which began at Habibullah Road, concluded at the Shri Sankarlal Sunderbai Shashun Jain College and was part of a 15-day campaign that began on May 13 for students and the public. The campaign is being conducted every year across India since 1944, this being the 69th edition. The objective of the campaign is to spread spiritual and religious values with self-discipline. Around 750 students and 250 members of the public attended this year.
The rally began around 8.30 am with distribution of juice and water bottles.
Slogans such as ‘Live and Let Live’, ‘Healthy food, vegetarian food’, ‘If we protect the environment, our life will be protected’ were raised during the rally.
Jain Samani Suyashnidhi, who spoke at the inauguration said, “World peace is important than anything else and the person who follows the five principles of Jainism - Ahimsa, Sathya, Asteya, Brahmacharya and Aparigraha, becomes a better individual”.
“A society that follows non-violence and vegetarianism will be a better society”, she said.
