Ramadoss wants PM to solve gay issue

New Delhi: ‘Decriminalising homosexuality’ is yet another issue where Home Minister is finding itself isolated and the worse is that even Home Minister Shivraj Patil’s close colleagues are also not supporting him.

Patil’s stand before the Delhi High Court that homosexuality is illegal has turned the issue into a health versus morality debate and the cabinet members supporting Health Minister are Home Minister’s own cabinet colleagues.

Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss and his supporters have decided to take the matter to the Prime Minister.

“We are now going to the Prime Minister with ministers like Oscar Fernandez. We need to keep up with the times,” says Ramadoss.

Forcing law makers to keep up with the times are gay parades and now as the Prime Minister has returned home from the US, he will have to face this group of squabbling ministers.

“Differences are there which the Prime Minister will sort out,” adds the Health Minister.

But sources in the Law Ministry say homosexuality is not a question of morality but of law because Section 377 of the IPC that bans homosexuality also provides protection against rape of minor boys and men.

The option that the Government is now weighing is making rape laws gender neutral as well s changing laws on homosexuality to include lesbians.
