Ranchi: A 38-year-old medical representative in Ranchi in Jharkhand was beaten to death on January 1 by a group of drunk men as he tried to prevent them from attacking a woman. The victim, Srikant Bhardwaj, reportedly made calls to the police but as when they reached the assailants had already fled after beating up Bhardwaj and his three friends. All the injured were admitted to a hospital where Bhardwaj later died of excessive bleeding.
The incident reportedly took place on January 1 at 5 pm. One of Bhardwaj's friends, who is a minor, is still in the hospital where he is being treated for multiple injuries.
Speaking to CNN-IBN, SP Ranchi City Vipul Shukla said that two people have been arrested and it is not a case of molestation. He added that the accused entered the premises of woman's house to draw water from a well, which belonged to the lady, and when she protested, a scuffle broke out. The lady then called for help and Bhardwaj and his friends tried to intervene. They were badly beaten up by the accused.
