Bangalore: The French diplomat in Bangalore who was accused of raping his three-and-a-half-year-old daughter does not enjoy any immunity, sources said on Monday.

Pascal Mazurier was detained on Thursday night for questioning, after his wife, who is an Indian, accused him of raping their minor daughter.

However, the police had said that they could not arrest him since he enjoyed diplomatic immunity.

However, sources now say that Mazurier holds a service passport and not a diplomatic passport, and hence, cannot claim immunity. "The police is free to take action against him," the sources added.

Meanwhile, child activists held protests in front of the French consulate on Monday demanding action against him.

The Bangalore police had written to the Ministry of External Affairs after the diplomat's wife accused him of raping their daughter. The police had earlier registered an FIR against the 37-year-old Frenchman who is the third in command at the consulate.
