New Delhi: A 35-year-old rape victim was beaten up by a mob in the Mandavli area of east Delhi on Thursday evening. The provocation — she has filed a rape complaint on April 5 against her landlord and continued to stay in the house even after the accused was arrested.
The rape victim says that the women punched her while two men came from behind and kicked me.
Relatives and neighbours of the accused who assaulted the victim are not all apologetic about the act.
The accused's wife, Sia Devi says, "We thrashed her because she is an immoral woman and the whole locality was with me in this."
The police have taken action on the complaint that was filed on Friday after the victim recorded her statement against the mob.
DCP East District, Delhi Police, Ajay Chaudhary says, "we have registered a case now and arrest has been made in the case."
Sources say that the victim and Ram Kumar were having an extra-marital affair. Matters took a turn for the worse after the victim allegedly demanded that Ram Kumar either leave his wife and stay with her or give her Rs 2 lakh and transfer the ownership of the house to her as compensation for withdrawing the case.
The police have also registered a complaint against the victim too for immoral activities.
Even as the police investigates the charges of rape leveled by the victim against her landlord and the blackmailing charges against her, nothing changes the brutality of the fact that she was manhandled by a mob — an act to be condemned by one and all in a civilised society.
