Mumbai: Tata Group Chairman Ratan Tata launched the Nano in Mumbai on Monday evening.
Nano basic model will be available for Rs. 1,12,735 while the luxury model will cost Rs 1,70,335 at Pantnagar. Insurance and road tax will be separate.
Launching the car, Ratan Tata said that the car had given the country an affordable car and "major part of the country will be able to sit in it".
"The journey started six years ago when we overtook what looked like just another business... a business to give Indian families an affordable transport means, a small car which was very low in cost. It is to the credit of the team what we have achieved today," said Tata while launching the car.
"Hopefully we will be able to give the young India a car which was not in their reach to make transport safer for them. I am pleased to say that our promise is kept today to provide a car at Rs 1-lakh. The basic car would be at Rs 1-lakh at the factory gate in Pantnagar," said Tata.

The booking of the Nano will begin on April 9 and remain open till April 23 while the delivery of the first lot of Nano will begin in early-July.
Applications for booking of the car would be available in 30,000 locations in 1,000 cities across India.
State Bank of India is the qualified banker for collection of bookings in 850 cities and the car can be booked by just paying Rs 2,999 upfront while the rest can be secured by way of loan.
There would be 15 preferred financiers for the booking whose names would be disclosed in three days.
Nano, popularly known as the Rs 1-lakh car, was conceived in 2003 and in 2006 Tata Motors decided to set up the Nano plant on Singur in West Bengal. Work began at Nano plant at Singur on January 21, 2007 and the car was unveiled at the Ninth Auto Expo in New Delhi in January 2008.
However, in October 2008, Mamata Banerjee's agitation forced Tata's to abandon Singur and move to Gujarat. Tata's finally relocated the Nano plant at Sanand, near Ahmedabad.
