Mumbai: Six youths who were have tested positive for drugs at a rave party that was busted in October were denied bail and sent to judicial custody.
It comes as a shock to them, as they were expecting to get bail. The drug peddlers arrested along with them are already out on bail, but the metropolitan court sent them to judicial custody till December 8th. They have now applied for interim bail
“Office of Narcotics cell has gone back on their word. They had assured that these people are going to be treated as victims. The second unfortunate part is when we prayed for bail the Office of Narcotics cell through their PP have opposed bail and they have said they wanted judicial custody of these children,” says lawyer, Rizwan Merchant.
This could be bad news for the others who are to be produced in court shortly. As many as 240 youngsters were held in a raid at the pub Bombay 72 degrees east in Juhu in October.
Some of them sons and daughters of film stars. Of these, 109 of them have so far tested positive for drug intake.
“The girls' reports are pending. They're expected in 15 days,” says DCP, Anti-Narcotics Cell, Vishwas Nagre-Patil.
Police say various drugs like marijuana, LSD, and amphetamines were found at the venue. The party was attended by young professionals and students most of them under the age of 25.
