New Delhi: The CBI raided the home of former Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) official, retired Major General V K Singh, after registering a case against him under the Official Secrets Act.
Singh was a joint secretary in external Intelligence Agency, RAW. He had created a storm with his book India's External Intelligence: Secrets of RAW, which hit the stands a few months ago.
In an interview to CNN-IBN, General Singh said, "The CBI has taken my passport, computer, my books and personal diaries. I do not have any regrets. I stand by what I have written. I do not know why they are raiding my home after three months of the book coming out."
He also said, "I was careful while writing the book. I made sure that there was no violation to the law of the country."
The book spoke about political interference and corruption in RAW, and included claims about the purchase of sub-standard telecom equipment meant for VVIP security.
Singh's book alleged there were severe lapses on part of the Government that enabled the escape of senior RAW official, Rabinder Singh, who is believed to have fled to the US.
It also questioned the wisdom of the previous NDA government in releasing to then Pakistan prime minister Nawaz Sharif, a taped conversation between General Pervez Musharraf and senior army official General Mohammed Aziz, during the Kargil conflict.
Agency officials were tight-lipped about the development though sources said some CBI officials were questioning Singh at his residence on the outskirts of the Capital.
Singh's book publisher, Vivek Garg of Manas Publication came out in open support of the RAW official.
"The raid on the author is an open exploitation and torture of an honest, brave and bold officer as well as of literary circles. All writers and officers from all the services must join together to oppose this unfair activity of the government," he was quoted by news agency PTI as saying.
