An Under-Secretary with India's premier intelligence agency, Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), consumed poison outside the PMO, alleging that her complaints of sexual harassment at work had fallen on deaf ears.
The woman levelled startling allegations against the top brass of RAW.
"I have complained that my Joint Secretary offerd me Rs 30,000 to sleep in a hotel with him. When I complained, the Secretary wrote on my complaint, 'I don't wish to be disturbed on such issues," the woman claims.
After the 36-year-old consumed poison, she was rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) hospital.
Casualty Chief Medical Officer at RML, F P Sharma said, "She has consumed poison, but is now stable. At present she is conscious and is out of danger."
Meanwhile, sources at the PMO say the woman's complaints had been investigated.
A committee set up to probe the case had stated that the lady officer failed to appear before it and later withdrew the complaint. The committe had also said she was in a 'disturbed state of mind' and recommended medical counseling.
However, the woman alleges that she had been relentlessly targetted after she filed the complaint.
"Ever since the complaints, enquiries have been instituted against me, my phones are tapped and I have been going through this for one year," says she.
The police, meanwhile, is waiting for a report from the hospital before filing charges against the woman for attempted suicide.
While RAW and the govt have washed their hands off these allegations, the alleged victim now plans to move court.
