Real Madrid's spending is dangerous: Pele

Goal.com

New Delhi: Real Madrid have already spent more than €200 million this summer in reinforcing their squad and are not quite done yet, according to reports in the country.

Several personalities have been very critical of Real's heavy summer spending at a time when the world is going through a financial crisis, and the former Brazil international has now chimed in with his opinion.

"All I know is that it is not fair or democratic," he told L'Osservatore Romano. "It is the big one eating the small one. Maybe it is normal, but it is dangerous for football."

Quizzed on how much a team would have to spend on him if he were playing today, the 68-year-old answered, "Pele would have no price."

Pele also stated that during his playing days he received offers from all the big clubs in Europe, but that he decided to stay at Santos as they were "a big team" that played "very well".

"The problem is that nowadays, when a young footballer starts playing, he is already thinking about how much money he can make," he added.

"A player goes to Real Madrid and kisses the shirt, only to change teams the following day, kiss the shirt of the new club and pledge eternal love.

"In truth, they only love those who pay more, and all this is dangerous for the future of the sport."
