KANCHEEPURAM: Five persons were arrested by the Kancheepuram Police on Thursday for usurping lands using forged documents. The duperies took place at Siruthamur village in Uthiramerur taluk and Kayarambedu village in Chengalpattu taluk, said Superintendent of Police Manoharan.

The market value of the land is collectively valued at Rs 45 lakh.

In the first instance, Neelamegam (72) and his son Kumar (30) forged documents to show that the latter bought 1.33 acres of land from Baby Ammal. Police said Ammal had no legal claim to the land, though she happened to be an aunt of complainant and original legal title holder of the land Durai.

In the second instance, Ramakrishnan (70), his son Loganathan (33) and their friend Manivannan (55) were arrested. Ramakrishnan had given, by way of a settlement deed, to their wards 22.5 cents of land they did not legally possess.  Valued at Rs 25 lakh, the land belonged to Gayatri (35), who had purchased it from her relative Ramakrishnan in 2002. In other words, Ramakrishnan went ahead for the settlement deed of a land he himself had sold years ago.

All the five accused were remanded in judicial custody for 15 days by the Chengalpattu magistrate court.
