Recco of the week: Little Children

One of my favourite Hollywood actresses is Kate Winslet and that's really what got me interested in the film Little Children.

Little Children is a drama about a bored stay-at-home mother played by Winslet who embarks on an affair with a stay-at-home dad Patrick Wilson who she first runs into at the park one afternoon.

The film, on one level is about adultery but look at it from a larger perspective and you'll understand that it's really a study of human behaviour.

That detail incidentally, becomes more obvious when you consider the other story that's running parallel here – about a convicted child molester who's moved back home with his mother after doing time.

Both these stories run parallel and converge at the end in a fairly interesting manner.

Now the reason I'm recommending Little Children and the reason I list it here in my list of Oscar hopefuls is because it's got a great performance by Kate Winslet who definitely deserves a nomination for Best Actress.

To give credit where it's due, I have to say I doubt you've seen a film about infidelity quite like this one. Rarely has adultery looked so good because the situations under which this couple comes together are so sad, so real and most importantly so relatable, that you're almost with them when they cheat on their respective spouses.

What I really think is special about Little Children is the fact that it's a film that embraces the complexities of human nature instead of pretending that they don't exist.
