Bhopal: It's an election year in Madhya Pradesh and Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan is accusing the Centre of supplying red wheat.
"I inspected the FCI godown after there were complaints and the wheat being supplied by the centre is not even suitable for animals,” he said.
But later as prices started rising, Chauhan and his party, the BJP, realised they had an issue to pin down the Congress-led Central Government.
So they launched the ambitious Annpurna Yojana, selling people below the poverty line wheat at Rs 3 per kg and he made a promise.
"We won't allow red wheat to be distributed we will buy wheat from the farmer at Rs 1100 per quintal and give it to the poor at Rs 3 per kilo,” he said.
But the wheat being distributed under the scheme in Itarsi in Hoshangabad district is still the red wheat.
Manager of an Itarsi ration says, "We have to distribute what is being supplied to us. We can not change the colour of the wheat."
Chauhan was quick to eat his words. “Right now we have to give what we have but after fresh procurements are made we will ensure that this does not happen."
