Mumbai: The promise of a significant role and the chance to work with experienced actors convinced veteran actress Rekha to take another turn portraying a courtesan, in Gautam Ghose's Yatra.

The last time Rekha starred as a courtesan, was in Kamasutra: A Tale of Love in 1996. But in the years since she has played largely supporting roles.

Rekha said that she agreed to again play a courtesan in Yatra because it offered her a chance to tackle a serious role.

"I agreed also for the experience of working with Nana (Patekar) and Deepti Naval, both remarkable artistes," she said.

The movie, set to be released later this year, tells the story of a famous writer whose life turns upside down after he meets Rekha, who resembles a character from one of his books.
