Mumbai: Vice President of Reliance Communication, 33-year-old Gaurav Wahi, is finding it a bit difficult to face the cameras. The reason - a VSNL employee named Prashant Indulkar has alleged that Wahi paid him Rs 40,000 in return for leaking sensitive information about VSNL.
Indulkar is now in custody and Wahi's plea for extension of bail has now been extended to February 27.
Says Joint Commissioner Mumbai Police, Arup Patnaik, "It appeared to be a simple case in the beginning, but it is much more deep and bigger than we had anticipated."
The anticipatory bail application submitted by Wahi clearly mentions that Prashant Indulkar was in touch with him - although for a host of different reasons.
Wahi's application says he was merely acquainted with Indulkar and in fact, Indulkar who contacted him for a job as he was likely to be laid off in a VRS scheme at VSNL.
Wahi alleges that he had repeatedly told Indulkar that a job could not be secured for him.
Wahi's application also states that he is being victimised so that the complainant - VSNL - can settle old scores with Wahi's employers, Reliance Communication.
