Mumbai: It’s a sequel to the 777 black and white handset, Reliance communications is now offering a colour handset for just Rs 999. This could ring in another round of price wars in the mobile space.
At Rs 999 the Reliance communication has bettered its existing colour handset offer of Rs 1,234. These handsets have been made by contract manufacturers in China.
The company is targeting new low-end customers with this phone and also hoping to convert some of its existing users of black and white handsets.
“We are targeting 1.5 - 2 million customers with this phone,” says President, Personal Biz, Rel Communications, SP Shukla.
Experts say this could be a preemptive strike to counter the Vodafone Challenge. Vodafone has said it will target the low end of the market with cheap bundled offering. And its global sourcing muscle could mean handsets in the range of 15- 20 dollars.
The market buzz has been that Vodafone is looking at Rs 666 basic handset and a colour handset for less than Rs 1,000. We also hear - other operators like Airtel and Tata are waiting for Vodafone to launch its offer before they unveil their surprise packages.
So if you are a looking for a new handset, may be worth your while to wait for the all the new bonanza offers this festival season!
