Religious places on radar of terrorists, warns Patil

CNN-IBN

New Delhi: Focusing on matters of national, economic and financial security at a conference on Wednesday, Home Minister Shivraj Patil said religious places continue to be on the radar of terror outfits.

At the conference of Directors General of Police organised by the Intelligence Bureau, the Minister underlined that the new face of terror also has the support of modern technology.

The sleeper cells of terrorist outfits are a reality across all Indian cities, Patil added.

“Religious places, police and politicians can be targeted. Sleeper cells can be found in mega cities and be used by them (terrorists),” said Patil.

The National Security Advisor had also warned of the threat to religious places.

Among religious places, the mecca masjid in Hyderabad and Sankatmochan temple in Varanasi have witnessed terror attacks in the recent past.
