CHENNAI: Employees of Chennai Corporation donated blood to commemorate the death anniversary of the Madras Corporation Red Flag Union founder VP Chinthan, here on Tuesday. As many as 136 volunteered to donate blood while 93 of them screened to be eligible to donate blood.
Union general secretary Srinivasalu said that the Union decided to restrict the event with the Corporation employees alone.
“We were thinking of conducting an event which would benefit the society. Therefore, we decided to donate blood to the Government Children's Hospital in Egmore” he added.
“For some reasons, they had refused blood from around 30 staff who volunteered. They told us that they were either underweight or having some medication”, he said.
The camp which began at 10.30 am went on upto 2 pm as the doctors decided to conclude it by then.
The Union leaders said that they had decided to donate atleast 150 units of blood to coincide with the 25th death anniversary of their founder leader Chinthan.
There was no pompous speech or welcome address during the camp except for a short address by the Union president L Sundarrajan. It was simply by Corporation Joint Commissioner Anabalagan donating the blood.
Doctors team from the Children's Hospital led by Prof Dr R Subbulakshmi collected 93 units of blood during the camp which was organised at Ripon Building.
